Larry Drew II

All this college basketball season the Tar-Heels have had one huge problem... the play of their point guards, especially Larry Drew II (his dad played in the NBA and is an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks). But that all changed Sunday. The Tar Heels where down by six points in the second half of their ACC opener against V-Tech. Larry Drew only had two points, two turnovers and three fouls. When he came into the game I groaned, not knowing what he was about to do.

He quickly silenced me with two great steals, Ty Lawson caliber cross-overs, lay-ups and passes, helping the Tar-Heels take a one point lead. Than, he knocked down the teams first three pointer of the day. Than another that barley beat the shot-clock. The Heels won 78-64.

GO LARRY DREW!!!!

And why the heck did the Seahawks fire Jim Mora? Can't they give him another chance?

YES!!!

I just clinched victory in my fantasy football league... and had the best week I have ever had. I had Brandon Marshall, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, Andre Johnson, Drew Brees, the Texans' defense, Rob Bironas...all of who were in the top 5 for points by position. I AM SOOO HAPPY!!!!!

21!?

Twenty-one catches. How the heck did Brandon Marshall get twenty-one catches in ONE game and still LOSE! Thats three games of output. More like four games. Also, are there gonna be two 16-0 teams this year. It really looks like it, and how did Andre Johnson get 193 rec yards in the first half against the Seahawks. By the way, Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has 8 plays of 50 yards or more this year... thats an NFL record.

I still can't believe the 21 catches. WOW!

Indy ROCKS

Can ANYONE beat the Colts?!?!?! I wasn't paying alot of attention to football yesterday, but when I first checked the scores, the Texans were up 17-0 on the Colts and had the ball. When I finally checked again, the Colts had a 28-20 lead and never looked back. They are now 11-0!! This is a team that lost a Hall of Fame coach and replaced him with a coach (Jim Caldwell) with no head coaching experience. To make it worse, star QB Peyton Manning openly stated during the off-season that he was not pleased with how Caldwell and Co. were doing things, adding that he had no idea what was going on. But they quickly fixed it and are now five games away from an undefeated season, and its not like their schedule has been easy. They've squeaked out close wins against the Patriots, Ravens, Texans (twice), they've ripped the Cardinals and have a tough one next week against the rejuvenated Tennessee Titans.

Plus UNC Coach Roy Williams got his 600th win last night but thats kinda off subject.

The Redskins are a really stupid franchise.

The Redskins are my local team, though I chose to stick with my uncle and cheer for the Seahawks. When the Seahawks released their first quarterback and Matt Hasselbeck's quarterback coach, I hoped that someone would offer him a head coaching job. So I was really excited for him when the Redskins hired him.

The Redskins started the '08 season on fire, getting Zorn alot of postitive media attention. But they stumbled to a 8-8 finish and missed the playoffs, putting Zorn's job at risk. Now the Redskins are 2-5 this year, and all the blame is being placed on Zorn. The Redskins are trying to humiliate him enough to quit his job by stripping him of his play calling duties. But its not his fault. The Redskins are just a terrible team. Their quarterback is a bust, Clinton Portis is getting old, quick, their top receiver (Santana Moss) is good but is too inconsistent, their offensive line stinks, pro-bowl tight-end Chris Cooley is out for the year and their defense is mediocre, at best.

How the media and the team are treating Zorn is very unfair, but if he is smart (and he is) he will not quit, but instead force the Skins to fire him. If he quits, they won't owe him any money. On the other hand, if he forces them to fire him, they'll need to pony up 9 million dollars.

So maybe the Redskins should pay attention to what they should be... the rest of the season and next years draft.

GO HAWKS!

Around the NFL

I meant to write yesterday, but I forgot

Yesterday, a couple receivers joined new teams. Rookie WR Michael Crabtree ended his 71 day holdout and signed a six year, 32 million dollar deal, with the San Francisco 49er yesterday. Also, talented but troubled Cleveland Browns WR, Braylon Edwards, was traded to the New York Jets for two players and two more draft picks. This is a high risk trade for the Jets, as Edwards has only had one good season, back in '07 when he was second in the NFL with 16 TD catches. He struggles holding onto easy catches... he's led the NFL the last two seasons in dropped passes, but he's also the big play threat the Jets need.

Michael Crabtree is just a big idiot. Enough said. If you don't know why, just look up why he was holding out. He won't play this week as the 49ers host the Falcons.

Now I got to think of other stuff to talk about other than sports. (Yes, Braylon Edwards did make that catch)

Seahawks are back, Lions are still horrible, Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson have big games.

Last season, the Seahawks streak of 4 straight division titles was ended due to a rash of injurys (including 10 injured receivers, their starting Quarterback, and the entire starting offensive line). This year, they are trying to take back the division, and week one was a big help.

Matt Hasselbeck returned to pro-bowl form, and Julius Jones ran for over 100 yards as the Seahawks dominated the St.Louis Rams, 28-0. Meanwhile, the defending NFC West champs, the Arizona Cardinals, lost to the San-Fransisco 49ers. Sure, the Rams could compete with the Lions for the worst team in the NFL, but the Seahawks were missing two of their starting offensive line, and big play receiver Deion Branch.

Speaking of the Lions...
The Lions losing streak continued, reaching
18 games, while losing to the New Orleans Saints, 45-27. Rookie QB Matthew Stafford, who the Lions are relying on to turn them into a playoff contender, threw zero touchdowns and three interceptions as the Saints QB Drew Brees threw 6 TD passes in just over 3 quarters.

While Drew Brees had a super performance, the NFL might have a hard time choosing NFC player of the week, because superstar
Vikings running back, Adrian
Peterson, led his team to a 31-20 victory with his 198 total yards and TD's, including a 64 yard run to seal the victory.

Oh yah, Eagles QB Donavan McNabb broke his rib and may miss next week's showdown vs. the Saints. Also, Bears QB Jay Cutler and Panthers QB Jake Delhomme played horribly last night, each throwing 4 interceptions in their teams losses.

Madden Curse

OK. I don't believe in curses or any of that junk, but the Madden "Curse" is getting on my nerves.
If you didn't hear, Steelers Pro Bowl safety, Troy Polamalu, hurt his knee last night in the Steelers 13-10 OT win, and he will be out for 3-6 weeks. He did play very well before he got hurt in the second quarter, racking up 6 tackles and a spectacular one handed interception at the Steelers 5,which he returned for 16 yards. Here's a list of the other Madden cover athletes that have been "cursed"

2002 - Daunte Culpepper. Missed five games and played poorly.

2003 - Mashall Faulk. Missed six games, never ran for 1000 yards again.

2004 - Michael Vick. Broke leg, missed 11 games, went to jail 2 years later.

2005 - Ray Lewis. Missed only one game, but did not play at his usual high level.

2006 - Donavan McNabb. Missed last seven games of the season.

2007 - Shaun Alexander. Broke foot and missed six games. Never ran for 1000 yards again.

2008 - Vince Young. Missed one game, but played poorly and lost his job the next season.

2009 - Brett Favre. Did not miss a game, but played very poorly down the stretch, and is no longer in the Packer uniform.

2010 - Troy Polamalu/Larry Fitzgerald. Polamalu is out for 3-6 weeks and Fitzgerald has yet to play. The Cardinals play Sunday at home against the 49ers.

NFL Kickoff

YES!! The NFL's new season gets underway tonight when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Tennessee Titans. Although its boring to me, you may like it, as it should be a defensively dominated game. I don't care who wins, because the only team I care about is the Seahawks. The other teams can just tank. The Seahawks are going undefeated and winning the SUPERBOWL BABY!! I hope...

GO HAWKS!!!
